Team Exile5 Battlefield Bad Company 2 - Cyber Gamer 8v8 Grand Final against Legionnaires.
On Sunday 24th of July e-sports mayhem ensued with the pressure on eXile5's proud Battlefield team to follow in the footsteps of the CSS team’s victorious weekend at the National CSS competition in Melbourne. The Battlefield team were set to face off against Legionnaires in the CyberGamer BC2 8v8 season Grand Final.
This game was always going to be a clash of the titans, as legionnaires are very heavily Armour and vehicle based, whilst eXile5 are renowned as an infantry dominant team. This was probably one of the toughest matches the BC2 team have played in quite some time, much to the team’s surprise.
Division Leader Aaron "1MMort4L" Damiani had this to say about the game and preparation. "I didn't expect this particular game to be quite so competitive, and we virtually did no prep for the game. Last week we were set to face what I consider to be our biggest current rivals in Carnage, in which we put a lot of emphasis into and I wrongfully assumed that Legionnaires would be a comfortable game for us. That team is no joke and we really had to dig our heels in to come away with the win, well done to LG."
The Grand Final was scheduled as a Best of 3 format, where each team picks their desired map, and in the case of going to a 3rd and deciding map, the admin would decide which map to play.
Legionnaires decided to go with the map they are synonymous with and most teams know they are very good on the heavily vehicle orientated map known as Atacama Desert. On the other end of the scale, it is actually one of eXile5's worst maps and we have had a previously tied game on that map vs LG in the past. Our strategy was infantry based and Legionnaires were using every Vehicle known to man to take us out, which they did exceptionally well. Holding two flags for the majority of the time, along with excellent Helicopter and tank drivers, proved to be too powerful for us with the end result of Legionnaires dominating the map 140 – 0.

Next it was Exile5’s turn to pick a map. Arica Harbour was our choice as it is pure Infantry based and one of our stronger maps. Our rollout at the start was strong in the first round, but that was soon to change very quickly.LG seemed to have adopted a play style in which eXile5 struggled to adapt to in time. Losing tickets rapidly and unable to recover the first round we eventually lost the round, 111 – 0! On our chosen map! At Exile5, we have had our fair share of Esports dramas, and ups and downs, but we don’t give up. We never give up and we knew that we could turn the tables.
The entire team reunited over voice comms and everyone picked up the intensity. We came out strongly in the second round getting 2 flags on rollout which was crucial to get the early bleed. We also changed tactics, to counter their play style, and it worked to our advantage.
Communications were at a high level and every player in the team was hungry for the win and knew it would take lots of great play to over come the 1st round deficit. Sticking together and staying tight on the capture points proved too good for Legionnaires during the second round. This round ended in Exile5’s favour with a 144 ticket victory! With a win to x5 111-144. This meant a decider map would be played, White Pass.
We asked Deputy Vice Captain Luke "Floormassacre" Clancy to give us a rundown:
"What can I say, they schooled us on Atacama and we schooled them on White Pass." "We ended up winning the first round with 90 tickets! We managed to keep their armour down and ours up. 1mmort4l was fantastic in the APC on White Pass supporting both Alpha and Bravo squads at all times and putting pressure onto Legionnaires big time. We love suppressing fire!"
The second round of White Pass was a closer round, but Team eXile5 took out the map comfortably with a massive win of 157-0, to give them the grand Final victory over LG.
Cyber Gamer Season 3 8v8 is ours!
Great work to all for their preparation and commitment over the season, showing that pro-gaming is not just about skill and that practice is a huge part of success.
On behalf of the Battlefield Team, and everyone in Exile5 Management, we would like to give a huge shoutout to our fantastic sponsors: Western Digital, CM Storm, Iinet, and CoolerMaster. We really appreciate all of your constant support and backing.
