After both teams entering the server, and the ready calls coming up from both sides we were finally set to get the game underway. Not sure about the tsw camp but in our vent everyone was reasonably mentally prepared until the vent went silent and smitz announces… “I’m kinda nervous, are you guys nervous?” which put everyone into a somewhat nervous state! Unfortunately for the people who were keen to tune into tonight’s big game there were no shoutcasts, which was unfortunate because with such a tight game it would have made for an exciting watch. Team Sidewinder was set to start on US side, with eXile5 on Russia. Off the rollout eXile5 opted to hit the A site, with it uncontested at first, however a late push from tsw showed them having a crack at the flag but we were able to get a couple of well placed nades onto their squads location and wipe them out reasonably quickly. With the other squad and the APC covering B, and with the B flag closer to the Russian spawn, we were able to maintain a 2 flag hold off the roll out.
Team Sidewinder was back on the offensive at A soon after however, and the battles were switching back and forth between the A and B flags. After a short while, tsw were able to make a solid push onto the A flag which wiped out everything we had there, so we quickly gapped across the water to C and put pressure on the back flag. The battles at C were swaying both ways as tsw were on the front foot and then x5 would pull it back and so on and so forth. We were able to take down their APC at C after it had ruined all of our cover at the C flag, and we aimed to hold a B-C lockdown as retaking A wasn’t working out. There was a lot of trouble when the APC was back up, and with such a short timer on it, it was soon hassling us at C again. The revive trains were going all over the map, and the APC’s often went toe to toe, but the round ended with x5 in front by a hair at 20-0.
At the half time break everyone was amped to be ahead, and we knew it was our game to lose. Thoughts of the GA final where we were ahead at the half and then lost it in the second were lingering in some players’ minds, but we knew that we had to keep it together in the second as there was a huge gap between the prize for first, and the prize for second.
First Half:

As the second half went live, and thousands of dollars worth of prizes on the line the pressure was on both teams!
The eXile5 rollout consisted of the APC going to C with a small squad, and the majority hitting the A site. There were a few minor problems off the initial rollout with the quad bikes, but we were able to get everyone to the A cap eventually. Again with no initial challenge on the A cap, tsw hit hard and fast from the island between A and B, swarming onto the A cap with numbers. Unfortunately for us they proved too strong and were able to cap it back from us. The call was made to give up on A and make a quick hit on the B cap from C, so we quickly moved our attention to the B cap while a majority of tsw was still at A. We managed to overwhelm the defenders at the B cap and cap it off them, maintaining a 2 flag lockdown. However, it was not to be. Tsw managed to make a strong push onto B from the island section and take back the B, so we were forced to try another hit onto the A cap. With the armour hanging around the waterfall and with such an open plan area it wasn’t an easy task. We dropped a huge amount of tickets trying to take it back, and with the tsw players from B making their way across the island towards A they were able to rip us apart and wipe everyone there. The ticket count had been reasonably even for most of the second round, but towards the end tsw were ahead by around 20-30 tickets.
After the wipe at the A flag, thoughts of “this is it, we’ve lost it” were definitely running through my mind as we were only on around 19 tickets, and tsw still had around 35. Everyone was screaming at each other to keep it together though, and we once again made a quick push on B while tsw were still at the A cap regrouping from the previous flag defence. We managed to initially take the flag from tsw, but another one of their strong pushes from the island was slowly knocking us off until switch started screaming his head off in vent “I’M BEHIND THEM MOWING THEM ALL DOWN HOLY SHIT SPAWN ON ME” and that must have enabled the eye of the tiger or something, because everyone seemed to hit a massive second wind and pull it together. We regrouped on the flag and counted down the tickets until we crossed the 20 ticket margin in which we knew we had won. Once we had past the 20 ticket mark, everyone let out sighs of relief in being able to come back from the deficit, but we still wanted to put in the yards and win the half. Everyone held it together and kept on pushing on, closing out the half 6-0 in favour of eXile5. Giving Team eXile5 a great win at 26-0!

All in all it was an epic game to be a part of, "the most exciting BC2 game I’ve ever played personally, and I’m sure everyone was on the edge of their seats for the entire match". A big shout out to Team Sidewinder, who kept the intensity up for the entire game and pushed us to perform to the best we could.
On behalf of all members and management at Team eXile5, we would like to thank the tournament sponsors: ON3, Hewlett Packard, Electronic Arts, DICE and Puma for the fantastic prizes they had on offer, as they will be great to add to our collection!
