On 31st of March 2008 the Call of Duty 4 from Team eXile5 arrived at Virtual Arena in Melbourne Australia for Gamerthon 2008. With Savage and Grumpy flying in from Sydney for the major event.
This has been anticipated by the Australian Call of Duty community for over 2 months. The event got off to a late start due to lack of preparation by the Virtual Arena staff not loading CoD4 onto the gaming machines until 10am that day, the event was meant to start at 10 am but got under way at 11:30.
The team only had to play one match in there group due to lack of numbers, the played one of the bottom seeded teams Riot Control and won 24 - 0. The rest of the day consisted of practice matches against Everize, Sequential Gaming, Rising Crescendo and Blitzkrieg. This put them into the quarter Finals at ACMI in Federation Square.
Playing Blitzkrieg in the quarter Finals the knife off for map choice was won by eXile5, choosing the map "Crash" the boys won convincingly 13 - 0. Blitzkrieg then chose there map "Backlot", once again the team won quiet strongly 13 - 4 putting them into the Semi Finals against top seed Everize.
The Semi Final was played in the screen pit with Gamerthon TV sending a live feed to the internet of the match with the players and the crowd visible. Playing the top team of the competition in Australia Everize the team had much anticipated this match. The knife off was won by eXile5 letting Everize choosing there map which was "Citystreets".
The map went into double over time with eXile5 being the victors 19 - 15, being the first team in Australia to beat Everize on a map in a war. Exile then picked there map "Crash" being one sided to Everize for most of the map Exile5 pulled back a streak of rounds but it wasn't enough and Everize came away with the win 13 - 8 taking it to the default third map "Strike". After nearly 2 hours of intense gaming both teams were exhausted.
The match started with eXile5 on defence keeping it to 7 - 5 in favour of Everize we switched over to attacking dragging it back to 9-9 then the Everize boys pushed it over the line winning the next 4 rounds in a row to take the victory leaving eXile5 finishing in 3rd place for the first major LAN event of Call of Duty 4 in Australia.
The prizes awarded to the team for 3rd place was, there 30 dollar entry fee back, a Razer Mantis Control mouse pad and a Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard.
